This was a photo I never published anywhere before. It was around late December in Canadian Rockies from 2013. This section of the road is particularly tricky since I was about to enter a major avalanche section climbing up to a higher elevation. The winter in Canadian Rockies is both stunning and dangerous. They are always an attractive combination.
In one way the closest gas station is beyond 150 miles in front of you so you better make sure you have a good amount of gas with you. In winter there is also almost no lodging or service in this vast area so you are on your own. But in the same time it is an completely undisturbed experience in this primitive land to allow your heart to open up to feel and breath. I find that chance is quite rare nowadays in our society.
This is a moment when the sun finally broke out of cloud after driving under a murky morning from 7AM. The sunlight reflected from a solid ice sheet on the slope in front of me gave this still forest a sense of joyfulness in the spot. So I decided to pull over to the side of the road and snap of a shot of this beautiful scene. It was quite a magical moment that I felt a new level of communications to the land is occurring under the silence in this wilderness.
