This was an early morning hike after Christmas day at Bryce Canyon National Park. The temperature was still at a bone chilling 0 F. Hiking among these beautiful, snow covered, sandstone pillars was a refreshing experience. While I slowly make my descent I saw the light and shadow started to change. From place to place, you can see dramatic contrast casted to different part of canyon. When you hike further you might also see the bouncing sunlight from these red walls turn the view flaming warm around you.
The red-rock filled landscape is often a very good candidate when you turn it into a black and white. The slanted slopes in this photo are all covered by very deep snow. As the sun was still at a low angle, it shows a nice gradient from foreground into background. The red sandstone bounce back the sunlight in a very rich and beautiful mid-tone colors with a lot of details. Bryce Canyon has always been majestic and truly one of its kind.
