The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone

The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone

I always believe that the best form of art to portrait Yellowstone would be through oil painting. The rich colors on the wall of canyon makes it a perfect subject for creative presentations. If you are also a fan of Thomas Moran you will certainly appreciate his techniques to deliver that glossy highlight onto the canyon with the signature accuracies in his composition.

This is the style I have been working in various experiment to create a resemblance of his pictorial style in a modern day photography work. Personally I find it’s a lot harder than I first thought since camera these days are focused extremely on presenting details as its primary merit. (As a camera engineer I am fully aware of that pain) Sometimes it causes a great distraction to the creators to make perceivable artistic contributions to their pieces.

This frame so far is my most satisfied work. It was a rather difficult situation in the field when I snap this shot trying to control various adversary lighting condition and glares from awkward sunlight direction altogether. But I am quite happy with the result from this particular attempt as it turns out.
